"No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on
an old garment for the patch will pull away from the garment
making the tear worse"
-Matthew 9:16
We offer solutions for worn concrete with Decorative Concrete
Overlays. Stamp mixes come in 50lb bags and will cover 22-23sf
per 50lb bag at 1/4" (overlay
mixing formulas). A bond coat or primer is required with
this application and your substrate must be clean and sound. All
oil, dirt and grease must be removed.
When preparing a substrate, acid should be used with caution
and many times acid will cause long term problems. Our preferred
method is always mechanical; in the long run it costs a few
cents more but it will insure a good bond.
Our stamp mixes come in white and gray. Liquid or powder
disbursements are used to create a variety of colors. The
material is applied with a gauge rake and finished with a
smoother and then stamped. We have a spray texture which also
comes in white and gray. Liquid color may be added to achieve a
variety of colors. Surface preparation should be done in the
same manner. With a spray texture, apply the bond coat and allow
it to dry before applying the overlay material. We prefer a
light broom finish be applied to the bond coat for better
adhesion. Apply with a texture gun and 15-20 lbs of pressure
will give a good result. Then use a pool trowel to knock down
high spots.
Murray Decorative also offers a broomed finish overlay system
which can restore worn concrete to a new look. With this mix,
add water and level out the material and then broom. We offer
several demonstrations throughout the year (schedule varies,
depending on time of year and demand) on how to install our
materials. We also offer DVDs on installation. We think you will
find our material to have excellent strength and wear as well as
fair pricing.
For all coating which needs to be removed or surface prep
work, Bledsoe Rentals in Kansas City has excellent technical
support as well as equipment.
Reminder: Overlays are only as good as the
substrate they are bonded to, large scaling and cracks will need
concrete replacement and not overlays. We remind you to think in
long term when applying decorative overlays.
