What is an overlay?
An overlay is a topping that is applied to
existing concrete.
What types of overlays are there?
Many projects are overlaid with products. Our
line is more decorative in nature, but we do have products with
can be broom finished.
What is a stamped overlay?
This is a method where material is leveled to a
predestined thickness. Using a mixture of sand, cement and
polymer, it is then imprinted by the use of stamping tools.
Can it be colored?
Yes, we will have both powder and liquid
dispersions to choose from which come in 25 different colors.
Will this method hold up in cold
weather?
Yes - when applied properly over clean substrate,
you will have a product with an excellent bond and low
permability.
Can overlays be applied over freshly
poured concrete?
No - overlays must be applied over cured
concrete. Wait 28 days for concrete to achieve the necessary
hydration. Moisture transmission is a threat to any overlay.
How much overlay can I stamp at one
time?
If you have experience stamping concrete you
should be able to achieve the same square footage and even
slightly more. If you don't, about 300-40sf with a 3 man crew.
If I stamp concrete now, will my
overlays work?
Yes, but you might have to pour your material
thicker so they will not bottom out or use texture materials
ahead of your stamping tools.
How do I apply release on stamped
overlays?
We have found that liquid release works better
than powder in overlay applications, but you may also use
powder.
Does an overlay need to be resealed?
Yes. We recommend a wait of 48 hours before
applying sealer over overlays.
Can overlays be applied in cold
weather?
There are some variables here but a good rule of
thumb is, "Don't let your materials be cooler than 60 degrees at
time of placement and air temperature should be above 45 degrees
when applying."
What if my substrate has cracks or
expansion joints?
All joints must be honored and crack repair
should be done.
