Helpful Calculations

  • We recommend a 3500 PSI mix with clean 3/4" aggregate
  • With our color hardener you can use 5%-6% air entrainment
  • Use a water reducer to cut down on water/cement ratio
  1. Set forms square with proper drainage over well compacted subgrade.
  2. Pour your concrete, flat and edge. Don't use jitterbugs!
  3. Place stencil in fresh concrete and work with stencil roller.
  4. Color hardener can be applied when bleed water is gone. Apply approximately 2/3 of a 60 lb pail per 100 sf.
  5. Work into surface. If steel tools are used, avoid any burning and take care as to not trap any bleed water.
  6. Apply the last 1/3 from a different angle and again work in. When the concrete is finished a colored release powder is broadcast at the rate of 2-3 lbs per 100 sf.
  7. You may then texture with a roller or a seamless pattern stamp. When the concrete has lost its ability to adhere to the back of the stencil, it is ready to remove. As you walk on the slab the concrete will chip slightly as you remove the stencil.
  8. Be sure saw cuts are done within 24 hours and 1/4 of the slab thickness.
  9. The next day, rinse the slab to get rid of most of the chips and release powder.
  10. Mix a solution of 1 cup or 8 oz. cup to 2 gallons of water in a plastic sprinkler can, using a stiff bristle brush to clean off release powder. You need to remove at least 90% of the powder. A floor buffer will work well also, just be sure your concrete has properly cured.
  11. When concrete has sufficiently cured it may then be sealed. We recommend a 10-14 day wait for the concrete to achieve maximum hydration.
