What are acid stains?
It is a formula which is used to achieve color
over uncolored concrete. It's superior to paint and floor
sealers as it reacts with the surface, becoming a permanent part
of the concrete. There will be wear as the concrete wears.
What will stains do to the concrete?
They produce a variegated color. Each color will
depend on the mix design, age, and finish of the concrete.
What are acid stains made of?
It is a water based solution mixed with an acid
and metallic salts which perform and react with cured concrete,
causing color deposits in the concrete.
What colors can be achieved?
There are
10 standard
colors, many colors can be achieved by mixing and
experimenting.
What kind of coverage can I get?
300-400 s/f per gallon (concentrated : 1 gallon
acid stain / 1 gallon water)
What type of equipment should be used
for application?
Uncolored acid resistant brushes. Containers
should be wide enough to place your brush or broom in with no
metal parts. If pump up sprayers are used, be sure they are acid
resistant and equipped with a fan tip. DO NOT USE SPRAYERS WITH
METAL PARTS. Wear rubber gloves and safety goggles when
applying.
What preparation must be done before
applying stain?
Surface must be clean of any dirt, oil, plaster,
sheetrock mud, grease, and any coating such as water repellents
or curing compounds. If these coatings are not removed, the
stain will not be bale to react successfully.
What type of design could be created?
You can be as creative as you successfully
master. The use of skill saws and sand blasting templates, also
the use of an
Engrave-A-Crete saw, can highly enhance your work.
Should my stains be sealed?
YES - as soon as the surface has been cleaned and
dried. We recommend a 2 part water based epoxy sealer for
interior floors. It is easy to apply, giving a hard, durable
surface. We carry several types of
sealers, including water
based for the interior and a water based epoxy. We also supply
high gloss and matte finish, in solvent borne sealers.
Does a stained floor require
maintenance?
YES. Sweep up dirt and clean spills as they
happen. Floor polishers may be used on large areas and a wax may
be applied as you would with a tiled floor.
